ENTRO’ DICT: Horology

Entro ‘dict. has introduced to take you into the deep world of watches through sharing special concepts. The second concept Entro ‘dict. is ‘horology’, which extends from 300 BC to the institute established in England in 1858 and now becomes a department in  universities.

Horology : The study and measurement of time that also contains the art of making watches. Carrying a historical context focusing on the science of time, the meaning of horology is evolved and is being used today for expressing the mastery in watchmaking. After British Horological Institute opened in 1858 for working on the development of advance horology field, many institutes, museums and libraries devoted to this subject have established.  One of the most comprehensive museums dedicated to horology is the Musée international d’horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland).

While horology mainly refers to the study of mechanical timekeeping devices, in recent years it has evolved and start including electronic devices also. The term ‘horologist’ is used to define a person skilled in the practice or theory of horology. The terms mainly refers to watchmakers who are dealing with professional time keeping, but it also contains horology enthusiasts and scientist related to this field as well.
